7-8-08 DAILY RECAP

JOEY GOMES (OF, Joliet Jackhammers, Northern League IND):
7/7 - 7/9: All Star Break for the Jackhammers. They pick it up again Thursday versus the Goldeyes for a three game series in Winnipeg.

CHAD FILLINGER - P, Joliet Jackhammers, Northern League - IND:
7/7 - 7/9 All-Star Break for the Jackhammers. Look for Chad in middle relief on Thursday as they resume play in Winnipeg.

LOUIS OTT (DH/INF Detroit Tigers Organization - Lakeland Tigers, A):
7-8: K'd in his pinch hit appearance as a 9th inning sub for the catcher in a 9-0 2 hit victory over Brevard County. .260 avg. Recap.

TOMMY EVERIDGE (1B, Oakland A's Organization - Midland Rockhounds, AA):
7-8: 1 for 3 in a 3 hit 2-0 shutout of Springfield. A sac fly added an RBI for Tommy. .258 avg. Recap.

KONRAD SCHMIDT (C, Arizona Diamondbacks Organization - SouthBend Silver Hawks, A):
7-8: Day off for South Bend.
7-7: 0 for 2 at Catcher with and walk and 2 RBIs on a sac fly as South Bend blanks Fort Wayne 6-0. .255 Avg. Recap.

JONNY GOMES (DH, Tampa Bay Rays):
7-8: 0 for 3 with a K and two fly outs as the Rays were shutout in the first game of the short series at Yankee Stadium. Maddon subbed Gross for Gomes as a defensive replacement and Gross gunned down Posada at the plate to save another run. Jonny's average has dipped to .186 despite the additional opportunities he's had the last 7 days. Hopfully his luck will change and the Baseball Gods will steer that ball toward the gap.

More Rays Notes: Catcher Dioner Navarro and Pitcher Scott Kazmir were named to the 2008 AL All-Star team. Rookie sensation Evan Longoria (3B) is leading the Final Man fan voting (see the 7-7 post below to help Evan get to Yankee Stadium.)

BRANDON MORROW (P, Seattle Mariners):
7-8: Starting pitcher Silva went the distance for the Mariners in a 0-2 2 hit loss to Oakland.
7/5: Just another easy save for Morrow, his 7th, as the Mariners continue to battle back, winning another close one 3-2 over Detroit.

Give PTownFan a shout. It will make her day to know there is someone out there ;-) Don't worry. She doesn't always talk about herself in the third person like The Rickey.
