Ahhhh... Spring Training opened this weekend with the report of pitchers, catchers and hard hustling early birds to their respective camps. And college ball is well underway.
Brandon Morrow (RHP, Seattle Mariner): Here's a good recap of the Rohnert Park (Rancho Cotati, UC Berkeley) hurler's quick rise from top draft pick to probable starter in just two seasons. Most pitchers would be celebrating their first AAA assignment at this point in their career, but Brandon can count his minor league days in weeks, not years. Pretty exciting to watch. This PTown family is looking forward to Seattle's fist roadtrip to Oakland and hopes Brandon is pitching in the first, not the last inning. Thanks to the Seattle Times for keeping us up to date.
Sam Bannister (UC Arizona Wildcats Softball via Petaluma High School): The Wildcats had a 5 win weekend, improving their record to 7-2. Sam had a very good tournament contributing consistent offense and defense from a number of positions. The Wildcats home opener is Friday.
Sonoma State Seawolves Baseball: The Seawolves stole all the fish from the Monterey State Otters on Friday, winning 32-7. You'd think 32 runs would be good for a school record, but they had to settle for "largest margin of victory". Seems they also scored 32 runs back in 1998. Here are the gory details if you really must know ;-) SSU is off to a hot 7-0 start, the best in school history. Their weekend games were rained out as nature put over 3 inches of much needed rain in the gauge. We're looking forward to seeing SSU Freshman and St. Vincent HS grad Robbie White on the field next year.
