Joey was hit in the helmet by a pitch to load the bases for teammate Wally Bachman, Jr. who went yard for a Grand Slam. Fargo was down 4 runs going into the 9th inning and pummelled Jackhammers' pitching with 6 hits and 7 walks in the final two innings. . 280 avg. Joliet (33-35) is 4 and 6 in their last 10 with a 2 game losing streak, 10 games back and 2.5 out of 2nd place. Joliet will try to avoid a Redhawks sweep with a win this afternoon.

KONRAD SCHMIDT (C, Arizona Diamondbacks Organization - Visalia Oaks, High A):
PROMOTED TO CLASS A ADVANCED VISALIA OAKS 7-11-08
8-2: 1 for 5 at DH with 3 RBI, one a two out RBI in last night's 11-12 loss to Stockton. Konrad went yard for the first time in AA against Bakersfield last night. Konrad's .357 avg leads the team right now. The Oaks are 3-7 in their last 10 with a 1 game losing streak, 6 games back of Division leading Modesto.

STEPHEN PEARSON (1B, American Assn-Wichita Wingnuts, IND):
The Wingnuts have a rare 3 day break before hitting the road for two weeks while they give up their stadium for the NBC World Series.

JONNY GOMES (DH, Tampa Bay Rays):
8-2: 0-2 in the Rays 2nd win in two days over the visiting Detroit Tigers. The Rays offense finally turned it on with 11 hits in the 9-3 win. Jonny came up with bases loaded in his first AB and fouled a few off before striking out. What a sweet hit that would have been.

Rays Chatter: Rocco Baldelli flew into town yesterday and the Rays will make a tough decision about whether to mess with the chemistry of the team and activate Rocco, sending one of the other guys down or designating one for assignment. There are conflicting reports about whether Jonny has an option remaining, but according to a Rays source, it appears he has one left. A stint in Durham to get the bat going in time for a play off run sure beats a few other scenarios. OF Gabe Gross has also hit a rough patch with just 3 hits in 26 ABs during the last 30 days. His defense is a bit of a plus, but this will not be an easy call for the Rays.

BRANDON MORROW (P, Seattle Mariners):
8-2: Did not pitch in yesterday's 1-3 loss to the Orioles.

PTOWN's UP AND COMERS:

DJ GENTILE (OF, Mat-Su Miners (Palmer, AK), Alaska Baseball League, Amateur):
DJ will play in the NBC World Series beginning tomorrow.
