8-4 CUP O' JO

MEET PTOWN's PROS: Click Here

Yesterday's Pearls:

Tommy Everidge (AA Midland, A's) continues hot streak... as does his team, winning 10 straight... an A's Affiliate record. Tommy's numbers caught the eye of the AAA Rivercats last year about this time and he was rewarded with a stint at AAA during the play offs. Keep it going Tommy.

JOEY GOMES (DH, Joliet Jackhammers, Northern League IND):
8-3: 1 for 5 with a single in a 9-16 loss as Fargo swept Joliet and continues to distance themselves from the pack. 280 avg. Joliet (33-35) is 4 and 6 in their last 10 with a 2 game losing streak, 11 games back and 3.5 out of 2nd place. The shorthanded Jackhammers lost another pitcher to the DL late last week and the radio announcer commented that another Jackhammer broke his arm in Saturday's game. Injuries coupled with a 10 inning game the day before emptied Joliet's bullpen and INF/OF/DH Wally Bachman, Jr. made his professional debut as a relief pitcher in the 8th. He did surprisingly well, getting out of it with 2 Ks and a 0.0 ERA.

CHAD FILLINGER - P, Joliet Jackhammers, Northern League - IND:
8-2: Entered an 8-5 game and maintained a Joliet lead in two innings pitched. Chad fanned 4 and gave up two earned runs on 4 hits and a walk. 3.64 ERA.

LOUIS OTT (DH/INF Detroit Tigers Organization - Lakeland Flying Tigers, A):
LOUIS TRANSFERRED TO BACK TO CLASS A LAKELAND FLYING TIGERS ON 7-26-08 AFTER SUCCESSFUL STINT WITH AA ERIE BATTING .238
8-3 - Game One: 1 for 3 at 3B in an 2-1 win over Tampa .266 Avg.
8-3 - Game Two: 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs as the Flying Tigers topped Tampa 4-2. .271 Avg.
Lakeland is 6-4 in their last ten with a 2 game win streak in second place, 4 games back of Dunedin.

TOMMY EVERIDGE (1B, Oakland A's Organization - Midland Rockhounds, AA):
8-3: The Hounds continue to be hot on the trail of the Division Leaders as they notched another victory yesterday, sweeping Corpus Christi with a 6-2 win. The 10th consectutive win extends an A's affiliation record for the A's Organization. Tommy was 2 for 4 with two doubles, one a two out RBI double, a run scored, and two RBIs. .275 avg. The Rockhounds overtook San Antonio for second place this weekend and and are just one game back of Frisco.

KONRAD SCHMIDT (C, Arizona Diamondbacks Organization - Visalia Oaks, High A):
PROMOTED TO CLASS A ADVANCED VISALIA OAKS 7-11-08
8-3: Did not play in the Oaks 3-5 loss to Stockton.
8-2: 1 for 5 at DH with 3 RBI, one a two out RBI in last night's 11-12 loss to Stockton. Konrad went yard for the first time in AA against Bakersfield last night. Konrad's .357 avg leads the team right now. The Oaks are 3-7 in their last 10 with a 1 game losing streak, 6 games back of Division leading Modesto.

STEPHEN PEARSON (1B, American Assn-Wichita Wingnuts, IND):
The Wingnuts have a rare 3 day break before hitting the road for two weeks while they give up their stadium for the NBC World Series.

JONNY GOMES (DH, Tampa Bay Rays):
8-3: The Rays scratched out another win against Detroit with a game winning bases loaded walk in the 10th. Their 5th straight win improved their record to 66-44, matching their 2007 win total with nearly two months remaining in the regular season. Jonny struck out in his pinch hit appearance. In the 10th, Jason Bartlett squared to bunt and the ball hit the tip of the index finger on his throwing hand. With a cut but no break, his status is day-to-day with Longo pencilled in at SS and Aybar at 3B tonight against the Indians. The next batter, S hawn Riggans, was hit squarely in the middle of the chest with a 93mph fastball. It was a very scary moment as Riggans had the wind knocked out of him, but was able to stay in the game and score the winning run on the bases loaded walk of Carlos Pena.

Rays Chatter: The Rays are due to make a decision about Rocco Baldelli today. They will either activate him and make an associated roster move or assign him to Durham for another rehab stint.

BRANDON MORROW (P, Seattle Mariners):
8-2: Did not pitch in yesterday's 1-3 loss to the Orioles.

PTOWN's UP AND COMERS:

DJ GENTILE (OF, Mat-Su Miners (Palmer, AK), Alaska Baseball League, Amateur):
DJ will play in the NBC World Series beginning today.

Give PTownFan a shout. It will make her day to know there is someone out there ;-) Don't worry. She doesn't always talk about herself in the third person like The Rickey.
