8-30 CUP O' JO

JOEY GOMES - OF, Joliet Jackhammers, Northern League - IND
and
CHAD FILLINGER - P, Joliet Jackhammers, Northern League - IND
The agony of defeat descended upon Joliet last night. The Jackhammers lost to Winnipeg and Kansas City beat league leading Fargo. That combo eliminates the Jackhammers from playoff contention. Joey was 1-3 with a single, two runs scored, a walk and a K in the 6-4 loss. Chad was Joliet's fifth pitcher, throwing a scoreless 8th and 9th inning and improving his ERA to 3.4.

The loss has a silver lining for PTown ballplayers. Chad and Joey will be headed home in a few days and Chad is already booking pitching lessons. Joey will also start up soon. If you'd like to get in touch with either of them, click on the email button and I'll hook you up.

LOUIS OTT (DH/INF Detroit Tigers Organization - Lakeland Flying Tigers, A)
Lou scored the winning run last night in a tight game. He scored from second on a single in the bottom of the 9th after reaching 1st with a walk. He was 0-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, a walk and a K in the 11-10 win over Clearwater.

TOMMY EVERIDGE (1B, Oakland A's Organization - Midland Rockhounds, AA)
Nice to see a win... and a big one... for Midland. Huge night for Tommy who was 3-5 with a home run, two doubles, 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs in the 12-1 clobbering of San Antonio. The win puts Midland one game back of Frisco and in a tie with San Antonio for the wild card based on best overall season record. It's down to the wire as Midland travels to Frisco for the final series and San Antonio faces last place Corpus Chrisi. Let's go Tommy. Fire those boys up and get it done! PTown needs a good MiLB pennant race to warm us up for the Rays drive in a month!

KONRAD SCHMIDT (C, Arizona Diamondbacks Organization - Visalia Oaks, High A)
1 for 4 at Catcher in a close one last night. Konrad singled in the Oaks 2-1 win over Bakersfield last night. .343 avg. Given their strong performance this week, the Oaks playoff chances are still alive. If the Oaks pull to within a game of Modesto (67-67 overall) after Monday's season finale, it will force the make-up of the July 24 game between the two teams that was postponed because of a police incident in the area. Gotta believe. The way Visalia is playing, I wouldn't count 'em out.

JONNY GOMES (DH/OF, Tampa Bay Rays Organization - Durham Bulls, AAA)
The Division Champ Bulls dropped one to After clinching the Division title, the Bulls dropped a game to Charlotte last night. Jonny was 0-5 with two Ks in the 7-5 loss. .246 avg.

BRANDON MORROW (P, Seattle Mariners)
Brandon pitches again tonight. Despite a shaky outing earlier this week, he's still scheduled to pitch against New York at Safeco Field next week per Seattle Skipper, Jim Riggleman.

Give PTownFan a shout. It will make her day to know there is someone out there ;-) Don't worry. She doesn't always talk about herself in the third person like The Rickey.
