8/22 CUP O' JO

JOEY GOMES - OF, Joliet Jackhammers, Northern League - IND
8-21 vs. Gary Railcats: 1 for 5 with an lead-off single and a run scored in the 7th. .301 avg. Joey scored what looked to be an insurance run at the time with the Jackhammers up 6-4. But the game got close in the bottom of the 9th as the Railcats came within a run of tying things up. Joliet held on to win 9-8. Joliet (39-48) is 5 and 5 in their last 10 with a 1 game win streak. Kansas City is on the playoff bubble and gutted out another road win against the league leaders last night. That means the Hammers only have 9 games to make up a 3 game gap and nose their way into the playoffs. The 3 game KC/Joliet series early next week is a big one alright.

The Bulls need to play some good ball the next few days and clinch their division. Their comfy 10 game lead has been whittled down to only 5.5 with ten games to go.

BRANDON MORROW (P, Seattle Mariners):
8-21-08: Wow. Brandon pitched 4.2 innings giving up two hits, two earned runs and striking out 10 batters before being relieved. His pitch limit is now north of 70. The game was suspended in the 7th inning due to a power outage in Portland. Brandon got his ERA down to 3.86 as he continues to stretch out his appearances and transition to a starting role. Hopefully in time for September call ups.

Give PTownFan a shout. It will make her day to know there is someone out there ;-) Don't worry. She doesn't always talk about herself in the third person like The Rickey.
