SoCo Ballplayer Signs With... OMG... The Red Sox

The Good:
Another Sonoma County Ballplayer and Camp For A Cure alum has surfaced. Sebastopol's Jason Lane has signed with the reigning World Series Champions. Jason graduated from El Molino HS and played college ball for SRJC where he was the 1997 California JC NorCal Player of the Year with summertime stints as an Alaska Goldpanner. He moved onto USC and was the 1998 College World Series MVP. Jason was drafted in 1999 by the Houston Astros in the 6th round and made his Major League debut in May of 2002 with a string of minor league awards in tow. He had a few very good years as a Houston outfielder. He hit 26 homers and drove in 78 runs and enjoyed a play off run and World Series with the Astros in 2005, his best season.
The Bad:
Last year, he hit only .178 in 68 games with the Astros. He was dealt to San Diego late in the seasonas they tried to bump the Rockies out of the playoffs.
The Ugly:
The Red Sox dealt OF Brandon Moss to Pittsburg as part of a three way trade at the deadline to end the Manny Madness. With slugger JD Drew hurting, The Sox went shopping for some outfield depth and found Jason's experienced bat. If Jason does well in AAA Pawtucket, he could be a September callup and try to end the Rays Cinderella Season early. Either way, he's sure to see a lot of Jonny Gomes.

Give PTownFan a shout. It will make her day to know there is someone out there ;-) Don't worry. She doesn't always talk about herself in the third person like The Rickey.
