CUP O' JO: Saturday, Feb 28th

Feels good to be back in "Cup O' Jo Mode". It's the morning recap of PTown area pros and up and comers. With a big mug of Peet's. Sometimes two. A three cup morning usually spins out of control and you end up with something like this to go with the stats. Which reminds me. I'm overdue to tell you how my brothers and I learned that gun powder is even more flammable than my dad thought.
Back to the diamond...

JONNY GOMES (OF, Cincinnati Reds Organization)
.
2-for-3 in Friday's 10-3 phlattening of the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies.  The win phollowed a phileting of the runner up Rays on Wednesday.  So it was mostly a AAA lineup for the Phils. And the Reds.  Pollyanna doesn't care :-)  Both of Gomes' hits were doubles. Both off righties (Carpenter and Madson). That will delight anyone else that moaned and groaned under the pigeonholing of Gomes as a lefty only platoon hitter every other week last year in Tampa Bay.  Jonny tossed in a headfirst slide for extra drama, though I hear Dusty isn't a fan of those. Tonight the Reds play a split Red Sox squad at 4:05 our time.  Catch the game on MLB GameDay Audio.

SS and super utility player, Jerry Hairston, and the Reds' primary first baseman, Joey Votto, will be off to the World Baseball Classic in a day or two. That should keep Jonny's swing oiled as Hairston is also getting a look as a LF platoon player and Dusty wants to see how Jonny can help at 1B. Interestingly, much of Gomes' tryout for a left field spot seems to be taking place in right field.  In other news, looks like Mets starting pitcher Johan Santana might not be ready for the Season Opener against the Reds on April 6th.  The planets are starting to align ;-)  Photo: Cincinnati Enquirer

BRANDON MORROW (P, Seattle Mariners)
On the hill for Seattle Sunday at 12:05 PTown time as the Mariners take on The Rangers. Listen to it on Game Day Audio.

Give PTownFan a shout. It will make her day to know there is someone out there ;-) Don't worry. She doesn't always talk about herself in the third person like The Rickey.
